The House that Built Us

Every house has a story, but the homes that raised us shaped far more than our childhood memories they shaped our values, our relationships, and the way we viewed the world. In this opening act, Moonie, Beau, and Maggie Mae take listeners on a journey through the homes of the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, exploring everything from front porches and screen doors to rotary phones, Sears Wish Books, one television households, and neighborhoods where everyone knew your name.
Together they discuss not only what life was like, but why it was that way. How did air conditioning change Southern culture? Why did front porches disappear? What happened to neighbors dropping by unannounced? And as our homes grew larger and our technology became smarter, did our families grow closer or farther apart?
Filled with laughter, personal stories, historical insight, and thoughtful discussion, this act explores how the places we called home quietly influenced generations of Americans and asks an important question: Have we changed our houses more than they've changed us, or have our homes quietly changed who we've become?
